Digital compact camera for outdoor adventures and underwater photography up to 14 meters, with a completely revamped exterior design and improved functionality
Ricoh announces the release of the Ricoh WG-80 digital camera. This new model features a compact and lightweight body design, with excellent waterproof and cushioning.
The WG-80 offers excellent specifications that go beyond the usual digital cameras and smartphones in demanding outdoor conditions. It is waterproof to a depth of 14 meters, resistant to falls from a height of 1.6 meters and frost to temperatures up to -10°C.
Excellent image quality
The WG-80 is equipped with a backlit CMOS image sensor, which ensures high sensitivity, low noise and high-speed reading of image data. Combined with a high-performance imaging mechanism, this image sensor offers a top-notch ISO 6400 sensitivity and ultra-high resolution images with about 16 active megapixels. It has advanced image processing functions, made possible by the latest hyper-resolution technology, to ensure sharp, clear and high-resolution images. It even offers innovative features such as the Handheld Night Snap feature, which automatically captures multiple images of the same night scene to produce a single, blur-free, composite image of them.
Six macro lights to help shooting up close, with various functions
Ideally positioned around the periphery of the lens for macro capture, six macro LED lights allow the WG-80 to provide bright, uniform illumination to a subject when the Digital Microscope mode is selected. Providing the maximum light intensity (almost twice as much as its predecessor) and a five-step intensity adjustment function, this six-light unit allows the photographer to optimize photography with a close-range flash based on theme or creative intent. To minimize camera shake and subject shake, instant illumination enhance mode allows you to use a higher shutter speed by automatically increasing the level of discharge of macro light at the time of shutter release. Macro lights also provide other useful features, such as the self-portrait assist function, which uses an LED lamp to check if the subject's face has been securely imprinted within the image.
Underwater shooting mode
Specially designed for underwater photography, the Underwater and Underwater Movie shooting modes are programmed to optimize color and contrast, based on the data of images taken under water. These features offer sharp, true images, enhancing the shades of red lost in underwater photography, while effectively compensating for the loss of contrast caused by the diffusion of light into the water. In Underwater mode, the Flash Off + Flash On option allows the user to sequentially take two images with one shutter, one without flash and the other with flash.
5X optical zoom lens with 28 mm wide-angle coverage
The WG-80 features a high-performance five-fold optical zoom lens with focal coverage ranging in length from 5 mm to 25 mm (equivalent to about 28 mm to 140 mm in 35 mm format) to accommodate a wide range of scenes and themes, such as landscapes. It also provides other convenient shooting modes, such as macro mode for capturing nearby images from a minimum focus distance of just one centimeter, a Smart Zoom function to extend the zoom range to about 36 times (equivalent to 1008 mm in a 35 mm format) without compromising image quality, for superior telephotograph, and an intermittent shooting function, which is useful for fixed-point observation.
Record a Full HD movie for extended high-quality movie shooting
The WG-80 provides Full HD movie recording using the H.264 recording format. Users can record high-quality, extended film clips (1920 x 1080 pixels, 16:9 ratios) at a frame rate of 30 frames per second. To add a few creative touches to your movie recording, there's a high-speed camera mode for slow-motion playback of the movie clips you captured and a spacing movie mode. A micro-HDMI terminal (Type D) is also provided to the camera body for simultaneous output of Full HD and audio film clips on external audio-visual devices.
Triple anti-vibration protection to prevent blurry images in all applications
Pixel Track SR Engine: When recording static images, this advanced vibration reduction mechanism effectively compensates for camera shake by digitally processing affected images.
Digital SR mode: When the camera detects low light conditions in capturing still images, this mode automatically increases sensitivity as much as ISO 6400, making it possible to use a higher shutter speed and effectively minimize the negative effects of camera shake and shake subject when experiencing poor lighting conditions.
Movie SR mode: During movie recording, this feature effectively compensates for the misalignment of images caused by camera shake through the use of exclusive software to produce beautiful film clips without blur.
2.7" LCD screen with external view adjustment function
The WG-80 is equipped with a 2.7-inch LCD display with a horizontally extended ratio of 16:9 and about 230,000 dots. The display's AR (Anti-reflection) coating minimizes annoying reflections to ensure a sharp, clear image on the screen even in intense sunshine that is often encountered when shooting outdoors. It also comes equipped with convenient functions such as the Outdoor View Setting function, which easily adjusts the optimum level of brightness of the screen.
